Back Pain And Handbags Part 1

Is your handbag (and shoes) giving you back pain? For some, where fashion is concerned, you have to have the latest thing, no matter what the cost.

You have to look good, your handbag the best and also your shoes, according to latest research. And the price to pay could be enormous with what it could do to your body.

Handbags that are oversized and shoes with heels that have that skyscraper look are setting themselves up for a lot of trouble. It seems that on average a woman carries half a stone in her handbag on her shoulder. Imagine that weight on the shoulder and what it is doing to the spine.

It seems that there are seven key items that women carry in their handbags, starting with a makeup bag, and this can vary on the size and what is in it, then there is a camera phone and again it seems that it has to be the latest one that is that one can afford. Then a diary, with a popular magazine or book, an umbrella that folds up, a hairbrush and an ipod.

On top of this are the incidentals, which are a set of keys, a wallet, hand cream and pain killers. (Personal note – I what for, may be back pain?).

It is estimated by experts that this equates to half a stone, in some cases a lot more. Although one in five women are ware of the long term damage that can arise from this weight they would not stop carrying their designer bags or wearing their high heel shoes.

Out of the 1000 women surveyed more than half of them said that they would be sticking with their apparel as it gives them confidence despite the pain that they inflict on their bodies. If you look at the super models and glamour girls you can see that they are prepared to suffer just to look good.

If you take the view that working women are wearing heels a least three times a week and this accounts for a least 50 per cent of them, that is a lot of pressure adding up in their bodies and giving a lot of trouble to the body and with a result of back pain, pain in the shoulders and in the toes through high heels. Women are suffering just for the sake of fashion.
Inflammation or muscle, ligament or tendon damage can be caused by pressure on the joints and then lead to long term damage.
