Did you deal with it straight away or did you put it off until the last minute? Did you get it off your chest or did you keep the negative emotions buried instead of saying what was meant to said? Did you repress the anger, rage, resentment, frustration etc and then the stress built up? With tension in the body, a rise in blood pressure, muscle spasms and headaches all a result of stress.
As an example of cause and effect, take a normal worker. Knows what needs to be done by a certain time and date. He or she has a deadline. Will get up early and if running late will skip breakfast or make do with something not appropriate. Drives to the office or workplace, sat in traffic, looking at his/her watch, stress already beginning to build up. When at work, sitting at the computer, on the phone too busy to take a break, posture poor and shallow breathing and no fresh air. And when a break occurs how is it used? Perhaps stimulating the body with coffee, cigarettes or recreational substances to get the body top work harder further stressing the body to do more.
When the job is done and after work what then? How do you relax? Perhaps nourishing the body with more caffeine, cigarettes, substances and maybe alcohol to boot. And this goes on day after day, week after week. Until the body rebels by saying enough is enough and gives you an ulcer or some other disorder and pain.
A Cyclic Back Pain Example by Dr Mark Wiley of The Healthy Back Institute. “This is how the mind/body back pan can be expressed as follows: some external problem or dilemma was not properly dealt with and this leads to stress; stress can manifest as muscle tension and spasm which can lead to vertebral misalignment; vertebral misalignment is not only annoying which leads not only to more tension in the body and pinched nerves (which cause referred pain) but to further stress; further stress leads to a decrease in liver function, which leads to body heat rising, dehydration and tightening of the tendons which leads to insomnia, which leads to anxiety, a racing mind, shortness of breath, which leads to analgesics, sleeping pills and to consuming caffeine to stay awake in the morning, but also comfort foods (such as wine, chocolate) to reduce the stress and anxiety, which leads blood sugar levels to rise, serotonin levels to drop, leading to the release of insulin in order to lower blood sugar, which leads to a back and forth dilation and constriction of blood vessels, which manifest as rebound headaches, referred pain, actual mayofascial pain and … severe pain in the lower back, mid back, neck and shoulders.”
