With our body sensing danger it quickly goes into fight or flight mode, sending adrenaline and cortisol into the blood stream this is our stress hormones. When danger has passed the body does not automatically return to the ‘normal’ mode and calm down. It will take some time for the body to return to its normal condition. If another condition of stress is present – traffic queues, telephones, queuing in general or whatever this will also bring our body into alert – fight or flight mode all over again.
With prolonged or recurring stress the nervous system is kept from balancing, which can then lead to other break downs in the body, with the digestive system; respiratory and neuroendocrine systems not balanced depression, anxiety, muscle tension and insomnia. These known triggers are of various physical and mental (mind and body) illness and diseases. Perhaps a better way of putting it is dis-ease; the body is not at ease.
Even though illnesses may have no apparent cause (headaches, insomnia etc) they contain a psychological, mental and emotional relationship and are real and felt by the one suffering it. So it’s not “just in the mind”. The truth is that it is real.
When there is emotional disharmony and with the stresses of life and lifestyle choices all have a cause an effect relationship. This is the pain and suffering of unresolved emotional issues that manifests itself as anxiety, headache and stress.
We need balance in our bodies (and minds). The Ying and Yang Chinese character represents a balanced relationship, one black one white and containing colour from the other. It symbolises truth. Just as there can be no light without dark there is also no symptom without an underlying cause, so we do not know what is right until we know what is wrong.
The pattern of cause and effect with those that suffer headaches is circular. Notice how this circle of cause and effect can transform a state of being into an illness.
Being late for work, stuck in traffic, waiting for the queue to clear can be stressful. If we eat a piece of cake when on a diet, breaking up in a relationship and fear are stressful situations.
Can you recall a time when you had to do something that you didn’t want to? Remember the feelings? Whatever the reason was you didn’t want to do the task. It maybe a break-up in a relationship, anything that might cause you unpleasantness.
