Stress and Back Pain Part 1

Stress and Back Pain Part 1

One of the main causes of illness in the United States is stress and it can affect different people in different ways. Figures show that nearly 66% of cases presented at doctors in the United States are born by stress.

Stress can be shown by fidgeting, anxiety, nail biting, worry, negative behaviour, the mind working overtime, loss of appetite and the reverse (comfort eating), overloading the body’s system by eating can lead to many other ailments, constipation, lack of sleep, too much sleep, poor blood flow leading to blocked energy centres, neck pain, shoulder pain, upper back pain, lower back pain and the cycle continues. Sometimes trying to deal with stress one adopts some bad habits and rely on alcohol, drugs, food (comfort eating) and pain killers.

Any number of different types of illness can be triggered by the above and over time health problems can become worse leading to other issues.

There are ways of stress that can be short circuited with its triggers stopped and taking over control of your body. Take a look the causes and effects of stress that relate to the mind, body equation.

Stress can mean different things to different people. What we feel and consider to be stressful others would not; it is our perception of the event. This is what we perceive as ‘real’. Our belief system tells one thing and so it is so. If we believe that we are being threatened that is what we feel and will manifest – we become what we think. If we are placed in a negative environment over time we become that environment and conversely if we are in positive environment we become that too.

There are different kinds of stress, emotional (loss of a loved one), psychological (obsessive thoughts), physical (a response to being frightened), psychosomatic (the need for attention) and spiritual (loss of faith).

If we believe that we are in danger (perception) our ‘fight or flight’ response kicks in, physiologically this is what we do. This is what we do when we are confronted with danger; our body prepares us automatically to deal with a stressful situation. By pumping more blood
into our muscles and with focused attention, with adrenaline into our system we are prepared for action. With this response it helps to protect the body and bring it back to normal levels. If stress is not dealt with this can lead to damage – physical, biological, mental they all inter-relate.
