Massage

Chronic backache tends to be worse at days end and is relieved by massage, heat, relaxation and bed rest.  Gentle massage several times a day also facilitates recovery.  Yoga uses a series of gentle yet deep stretching postures that help to massage, stretch and relax the muscles of the back. 

Benefits

BENEFITS: Yoga has been thoroughly researched and found to be very effective in treating the following ailments: Asthma Hypertension, Anxiety, Insomnia, Low Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Digestive Disorders, Spastic Colon Depression and much more. Remember that when you decide to treat the cause and not the symptom, then Yoga is your best choice.  Cat and cow has several benefits, among them which establishes ideal spinal alignment, strengthens and stretches back muscles, develops coordination of spinal movement. 

Yoga breathing exercises, called Pranayama. This focus’s the attention on the breath and will teach us how to better use our lungs, which benefits the entire body.  Certain types of breath can also help clear the nasal passages and even calm the central nervous system, which has both physical and mental benefits.  More doctors should become educated on the benefits of Yoga for Chronic back pain.  In addition, you can also practice yoga exercises for low back pain so that you can discover the benefits of yoga for back pain and improve your health. 

Care

Many physical therapists, such as me, practice yoga and are now incorporating it into their treatment plans for back care.  See your health care provider for a diagnosis and treatment of any medical concerns you may have, and before implementing any diet, supplement, exercise or other lifestyle changes.  Extended Child's pose is my safest place to go when I'm feeling back pain, Scared Cat moving into arched back brings relief as does working with blocks and bolsters.  Alternative Medicine is a variety of therapeutic or preventive health care practices, such as homeopathy, naturopathy, Ayurvedic medicine, chiropractic, and herbal medicine that do not follow generally accepted medical methods and may not have a scientific explanation for their effectiveness. 

We just want it taken care of, we want to be fixed, and we want it now.  Before you consider any alternative healing or natural heath care options take care of the aspects that you have control over, take responsibility for your environment and what you are putting in your body and in your mind.  Yoga is a good ‘balancer’ and will help you to balance your life fully.
