How Is Your Back Pain? Part 5

Your neutral back spine has three natural curves: the inward curve at the neck (cervical lordosis), the outward curve at the upper back (thoracic kyphosis), and finally the inward curve at the low back (lumbar lordosis).  The amount of curving in your spine when you are in a neutral posture determines your support needs.  Movement refers to the effect of excessive or inadequate motion on the body’s circulatory and neuro-musculo-skeletal system; Load is the weight one puts through ones back spine; Posture refers to the curve of the back spine.

Make sure to keep your neck in line with your spine.  Injuries such as sprains and fractures, mechanical problems including muscle spasms and imbalance and herniated discs, various acquired conditions of the spine including osteoporosis and rarely, infections and tumours may all give rise to back pain.  Still other studies have found that problems in the cervical spine can cause pain similar to headache.  It is believed in the yoga philosophy that one's age is judged not by the years he has lived but by the supple nature of his body and spine.  It makes the spine flexible, the skin more firm, removes tension and gives you a right posture.  Overuse or under use of the back is by far the most common cause of back pain that manifests as tightening or spasm of the muscles that connect to the spine.

Posture

Yoga also works to improve posture and create a comfort zone while in the proper posture, eliminating and lessening pain within the back.  Cobra Bhujangasana. This pose is a healing posture for the low back but this posture may have a negative effect if done incorrectly or too deep.  This posture decreases stiffness in the lower back, enlarges the chest, and strengthens the arms and shoulders.

As a yoga teacher, I’m always telling students to go slowly, breath deeply, and take it easy; but there’s always one person who doesn’t hear a word I’m saying… the guy who grits his teeth, grunts, moans, and sprays sweat across the room every time there’s a posture change.  Easy yoga with simple postures will safely and gradually help you increase your workout intensity, whatever your starting point.

By using postures that stretch, strengthen, and stabilize, you’ll find your way to a consistent and dynamic swing.  Moreover, often it has been seen that the inverted yoga postures help and reduces the greying of hair thereby giving a younger look.  The Yoga postures that are learnt can alleviate these conditions over time however there is work that will need to be done.

Conclusion

Sex. As strange as it may seem sex is also good for relieving back pain. With varying positions and gentleness, sex is not only good for you physically but you also create endorphins making you feel better.
