Back Pain Secrets Part 4

Shoulder massage techniques should be done whenever you are suffering from pain.  Massage provides deep relaxation to the stressed shoulder muscles, stimulates the flow of blood, and improves the functioning of the lymph system.  Shoulder massage is a natural analgesic because it stimulates the release of endorphins.  The untreated shoulder will not regain full range of movements. 

Upper

The symptoms are pain in upper or lower back, that also can go to chest, hips, tights or buttocks; if neck is twisted the pain will travel to shoulders or upper arms. The centre piece is the spinal column, which not only supports the upper body’s weight but houses and protects the spinal cord — the delicate nervous system structure that carries signals that control the body’s movements and convey its sensations. 

Starting at the top, the spine has four regions: the seven cervical or neck vertebrae (labelled C1–C7), the 12 thoracic or upper back vertebrae (labelled T1–T12), the five lumbar vertebrae (labelled L1–L5), which we know as the lower back, and the sacrum and coccyx, a group of bones fused together at the base of the spine.  The lumbar region of the back, where most back pain is felt, supports the weight of the upper body.  The pain may be felt in the neck (and might radiate into the arm and hand), in the upper back, or in the low back, (and might radiate into the leg or foot), and may include symptoms other than pain, such as weakness, numbness or tingling. 

The shoulder joint is composed of three bones: the clavicle (collarbone), the scapula (shoulder blade), and the humerus (upper arm bone).  It is easily subject to injury because the ball of the upper arm is larger than the shoulder socket that holds it.  Damage to the nerve root between the C4 and C5 vertebrae (C5 root) will result in pain at the base of the neck that radiates to the shoulder and upper arm weakness in the biceps, with some numbness over the shoulder. 

Yoga

Yoga is another way to gently stretch muscles and ease pain.  Yoga exercise equipments may not be mandatory for practicing Yoga, but it is useful to practitioners particularly beginners, the elderly, and for those who are unable to master certain poses.
