Back Pain Secrets Part 3

Condition

From the age of 60 the discs lose about 20% of their water content and their ability to recover from a hernia is less, but surgery for this condition is unnecessary and always extremely dangerous at any age, because eventually the neighbouring joints are subjected to constant irregular pressure which can cause pain and stress fractures.

The symptoms will determine exactly which disc is affected, and although the condition is very painful,  surgery is never required to cure a herniated or bulging disc, and should not be performed, as any relief obtained by cutting away the nucleus pulposus pressing against a nerve is in reality merely a temporary and barbaric 'solution' (although the procedure is a good revenue earner for the hospitals that carry out these operations). Sometimes in order to treat a complicated condition and depending on the pathology of the case, a manual or mechanical method of traction can be applied to lengthen the spine after mobilisation has been carried out.

An Inversion Frame is a wonderful piece of equipment to quickly help restore de-compression of the spine. It has many benefits. A simple back arch also will give great benefit particularly around the shoulders if required. It is also good for lower back work. Daily practice of yoga will help keep ‘ageing’ at bay and keep you healthy too.

Return

Early research suggests a combination of spinal manipulation, general exercise and active management, or specific treatments while you return to normal activities, may produce most benefits.  The right timing for return to sports activity or running is extremely important, and must be done by stages so the condition will not reoccur and lead to another injury.

According to the Clinical Knowledge Summaries guidelines, about 75% of people who are off work are able to return within 4 weeks.  Advice to continue ordinary activity can give equivalent or faster symptomatic recovery from the acute attack, and lead to less chronic disability and less time off work than 'traditional' medical treatment with analgesics as required, advice to rest and 'let pain be your guide' for return to normal activity.  Consider manipulative treatment within the first 6 weeks for patients who need additional help with pain relief or who are failing to return to normal activities.  Enjoy back pain relief by correct decompression of key joints, allowing natural movement to return. Massage will also help you recover quicker.

Shoulder

Shoulder pain can also be due to arthritis in the joints about the shoulder (gradual narrowing of the joints and loss of protective cartilage).  Shoulder massage techniques are extremely instrumental for relieving pain in the shoulders.  Shoulder massage techniques are known to cure shoulder pains at a quick pace and provide comfort at its earliest.
